CHOICES Responds to the US vs Skrmetti Decision

Today, the Supreme Court voted to uphold Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for youth, a ruling that now allows the government to discriminate against trans people simply because of who they are.

This decision isn’t neutral. It’s targeted. It’s harmful. And it puts politics over people’s lives.

“CHOICES stands firm in our conviction that quality, affirming healthcare should be available to all individuals without exception,” stated Jennifer Pepper, President & CEO of CHOICES.

“While this court decision represents a significant setback, it will not deter our mission to advocate for our patients, our team, and LGBTQ+ individuals throughout Tennessee and across the nation. This ruling establishes a troubling legal standard that threatens the rights of all Americans. We remain steadfast in our dedication to providing compassionate, respectful, and affirming care to transgender individuals. Every person has the fundamental right to receive safe, respectful healthcare, and we will continue delivering these essential services to the fullest extent possible.”

CHOICES in Carbondale will continue to serve minors aged 16 and up, including those from out of state. Trans youth deserve better. We will never stop working to build a world where they are seen, protected, and free to thrive.
