CHOICES: Center for Reproductive Health is proud to be featured in Christy Turlington’s full-length documentary Perilous Passage: Birth in America.
Perilous Passage: Birth in America is an urgent and unflinching documentary that follows executive producer Christy Turlington Burns as she meets the people closest to the issue: a Wisconsin OBGYN who balances the exam room with the campaign trail, a Black midwife in Tennessee building a lifeline for mothers unsupported by the system, a Louisiana father shattered by the loss of his wife during childbirth, and a pregnant woman forced across state lines to get the care her state denies her.
The documentary follows Dr. Nikia Grayson (Chief Clinical Officer) and her work with CHOICES’ team of midwives and their birthing patients, featuring insights from Jennifer Pepper (President/CEO), as well as patients, loved ones, and other staff members.
“CHOICES is dedicated to providing a safe and equitable environment for our patients to give birth, and this documentary shines a spotlight on that,” said Pepper. “The CHOICES model of midwifery care is a solution for our nation’s current maternal health crisis. We follow patients throughout their reproductive lifespan, providing compassionate care and support every step of the way, no matter what they choose. This film illuminates the importance of midwifery care and showcases our commitment to providing patient-centered care. ”
