Let’s face the facts…
- The U.S. has the highest infant and maternal mortality rates of any industrialized country.
- According to the 2023 Health of Women and Children Report, Tennessee ranked 43rd in the nation for maternal mortality and 39th for infant mortality.
- Black and Brown women and birthing people are 3-4 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women.
- In 2023, 100% of all pregnancy-related deaths in TN were preventable.
The maternal healthcare system in the U.S. is broken, and the solution is midwifery.
In 2017, I teamed up with CHOICES to restore Black Midwifery to our community. In 2020, we opened the only freestanding, independent birthing center in the state of Tennessee. Since opening, we have seen zero maternal or neonatal deaths. Compared to state data, our patients are 5x less likely to experience preterm births of C-sections.
Midwifery care is relationship-based, collaborative, and cost-effective. Help us create a world where everybody has access to a midwife.
